It’s April and It’s My Birthday

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”
– William Shakespeare

Did I mention that I love Birthdays? Ah…yes! Especially, if it’s my own. On April’s Fool’s Day. I used to leverage on the day, just because, and had fun playing tricks on my teachers and classmates, some decades ago. I’ve outgrown all the playfulness of that day, but then again, what is life if you can’t have a little bit of fun?

“The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.”
– Mark Twain

No matter how small or how grand your day is celebrated, the day is still, a special one, created just for you.

I got some of my presents early. A week earlier, I got another one, in the form of a sponsored trip out from the city, from the man of the house, to just let loose and go shopping to my heart’s content (with a budget, of course —- I’m exaggerating this a bit!).  On the big day itself, mom and dad presented me with a fancy gold dress ring. My sisters gave me some neat tops and a stylish purse, from their recent trip to the United States. I’m happy for all the gifts – no matter how big or small they may be, for after all, it’s the thought that counts the most. Nevertheless, I’m a card person. To me, birthday cards are special, because they convey the messages of the heart. Here are ones that I got this year….

Birthdays are filled with yesterday’s memories, today’s joys, and tomorrow’s dreams. The day serves as a reminder of God’s goodness and His wonderful creation. It reminds me that God gives you life, precisely for a specific time and and place. He could have breathed life in me decades ago or two decades forward, but He chose me to be born in this era. Yes, may God’s divine purpose for me, be unraveled one day at a time, as I continue to seek His face.

I have been blessed with wonderful friends, had a chance to study overseas, had a chance to travel to distant lands, i.e. Europe and Down Under, met and made wonderful people along the way and now, blessed with a beautiful family I can call my own.

Even in my lowest point, I am blessed because I have God’s abundant grace. Life may not be all icing on the cake and cherry-on-top all the time, but I can always look forward to more wonderful years ahead. For my best years are still ahead of me.

My candles may be many on the cake (and I’m not telling till I turn the Big Five-O), but my heart is forever young. Like what William Shakespeare said, in the beginning of this post, that month of April definitely has a way to make its celebrant as youthful as ever 😀

(My girl was asleep on the couch behind me —- she fell asleep on the way from our dinner back to the house)
