Join the party: instructor Beto Perez leads a Zumba class
“Ladies, step it up! You can adjust your (workout) intensity level by making bigger steps, or by shaking more of your butt!” – at least that was my interpretation, I can’t really remember, the music and the pace was too fast….
Huff and puff, huff and puff, this unfit mom tried to keep it up. Slow down? No way! The person next to you would think you’re too old to catch up. Left, right, left right, move it out of the way, lady!Oooops…the lady next to me was moving to my direction when the rest of us are moving on to the left. Heh! Heh! This music is hot. “Common girl, you’re years younger than at least five other ladies in the class, and they’re not giving up!” Ok, ok. I had not joined a fitness class since several years ago (probably six), and that was before my latest addition was born.
HUFF and PUFF, HUFF AND PUFF! A water break? Drink water, baby. You need it, you’re sweating. Your shirt’s drenched. “Ladies! You’re suppose to break only for water, not break from moving!”. My, how many minutes more? Oh….20 more? I can make it, I can. This belly fat needs burning, it’s not making you look any younger…
Time for our floor exercise! Oh! At last I can rest a little….What? Tummy crunch and leg lifts? Aaaarrrrrghhhh!
So, will this huff and puff mom be back for the next Zumba class? You betcha! Soon, she’d be the envy of many of her peers (and her younger circle of friends). This momma can dance, and she has a hot bod to boot!
Let’s see how long this one will last!
So, what is this “Zumba” class? To quote from http://dance.about.com/od/typesofdance/a/Zumba.htm
Zumba is a popular fitness program inspired by Latin Dance. The word “Zumba” comes from a Colombian word that means to move fast and have fun, which is just how people describe the routine. Using upbeat Latin music together with cardiovascular exercise, Zumba is aerobic dancing that is lots of fun and easy to learn.
Is good for losing weight?
Zumba seems to be an optimal fitness choice, mixing cardio intervals with resistance training. Many experts believe that an interval/resistance combination maximizes caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. Zumba mixes effective body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow, fun dance steps. People seem to forget about working out during a Zumba session, allowing them to exercise longer, and burn even more calories.
